Companies need to get clued up on group income protection Posted on : 16/05/2012

Research, released today indicates that many small companies are unaware of the benefits of group income protection, or even that it is on the market. Companies with less than 100 staff are seemingly unaware of the policy than bigger ones, as a quarter reported they had never heard of the group risk benefit.
The Stats According to the research carried out by Reed Business Insight, in which 400 businesses were surveyed:
  • 15% of the 400 organisations surveyed said they had never heard the term group income protection.
  • 32% admitted that they had heard of the term but were not be able to explain any more about it.
  • 35% said they were familiar with it and could explain more detail.
  • 18% of those asked were aware of both the product and providers offering it.
  • Businesses with less than 100 employees were most likely to have either never heard the tern (27%) or only aware of the name (41%).
Speaking to wsandb.co.uk, Legal & General Managing Director of group income protection Diane Buckley, said:
"These figures show that many small employers are struggling to ensure that good quality support is in place to help employees. It is concerning that over half of small businesses are unaware of GIP products and the difference they can make. To reduce sickness absence it is vitally important that small employers consider group income protection products."

New income protection provider treads the boards Posted on : 08/05/2012

A global provider of insurance has today been appointed by income protection provider Cirencester to replace its legacy IT systems.

Transactor Global Solutions (TGSL) is set to provide a completely new system, which will aim to provide financial advice through their website, allowing their advisers to conduct business online, as well as managing current and future income protection contracts. They also plan to incite a separate domain for their members, which will enable the handling of member enquiries and changes to details. Speaking to Insurancecageco.uk, Ian Blakesley, chief technology officer, TGSL said:
“This is a major appointment for TGSL as it takes us into the wider world of financial services from the insurance sector. The Transactor system is very flexible, using modern .net technology and we look forward to developing and implementing an excellent and reliable system for Cirencester friendly.”
Also speaking to Insurancecageco.uk, Paul Hudson, chief executive of Cirencester friendly, said:
“The undertaking of a major project such as the replacement of an existing IT system, is one that requires a sensible and cautious approach. It is very easy to let the cost of these projects spiral out of control and as a mutual organisation the cost of developing and implementing any new system is carried by our member owners. We are confident that by working with TGSL we will be able to deliver a system that both supports financial advisers and our members and provides the platform that will enable the society to thrive and prosper over the coming years."
